Ubud
Ubud is a must visit site when in Bali. In this village, craftsmen, arts and dance meet to entertain visitors and presume traditions. Ubud is surrounded by rainforest and rice paddies. In its centre you will find pulsing life in busy streets with a big market in the middle. There you can buy anything you imagine – clothes, sculptures, paintings, bags, glasses, accessories and all kinds of gifts. Test your negotiation skills here to get the best bargain and save a lots of dollars compared to Australian, European or American prices.
We have bought wonderful paintings in Ubud to put on our walls just for 20 USD each.
Crafts and culture
In Ubud you can see traditional nightly dance performances, you can also see regular Hindu-Balinese ceremonies. Ubud is approx. 28 kms far from Yoma Villas Bali. The best way to travel here is hiring a car with driver for the whole day. Depending on your preferences, you can see other 2-3 places on the way including beautiful waterfalls and Monkey Forest. See our Daily Trips sections for more ideas on the organisation of your trip.
Dining
There are so many local traditional restaurants in Ubud (actually in Bali as well) that it is not easy to choose one. The food is very colourful and variable and if you are lucky, you can find a nice place close to the market, with great staff and atmosphere. In one restaurant we were able to enter a backyard where, as you can see, some extraordinary animals are living including a bat and this tucan:
